Flag / Flag Pole Policy

Flags may be displayed on a single projecting (angled) flag pole (not to exceed 6 feet) on the front or rear of a home over a porch, door or other appropriate location at or below the roof eave line. The top of the flagpole may not be higher than 9 feet above the front door entry elevation.  Freestanding flagpoles are not permitted on residential lots.

For rear garage placement, flag bracket location must be between 3’5” – 4’0” from the ground, mounted on an angled bracket. Allowable bracket color can be either white or the same color of building structure. For safety reasons, flags are not to exceed into alley/service lanes at any time.

A service flag or service banner as approved by the Secretary of Defense may be displayed in a window of the place of residence of individuals who are members of the immediate family of an individual serving in the Armed Forces of the United States.

All laws of the United States Code and Hawaii Revised Statutes shall apply to all flags covered in this section.
